Took on the project of re-lining this Buco helmet that I'm using as my commuter lid. Used bandanas with the UnholyMoto logo screened on them... Not my best work but the material's quite nice and colorful, eh?

T-100 Gets New Bars

These Faclon Enduro bars narrowed my bike's profile by 6 inches- making lane splitting a little easier. They also bring my riding posture slightly forward of neutral. Norman Hyde cable extensions for the clutch, brake and throttle. I used a Honda dirtbike clutch lever and bicycle bar tape for the grips. . .

I'm in the process of changing out the right side controls as well. Below is the bracket that holds the highbeam and horn switches on the left- it has been painted black and will hold the kill and start switch on the right side- this bracket has been fitted up under the tank.

Farewell C10, Farewell

Today I sold off the C10 to an Andy from Delaware. The photo below represents the last run it made for Unholy Moto- the pick up of a Chris' Honda Supersport that's been sitting for 10 years. That was this morning (Sunday). The truck was sold 20 minutes after the bike was dropped off at the shop. The C10 had taken second string to a Toyota with a 4 cylinder motor and 8-foot bed as shop truck. In the far off future I plan to buy a Chevy panel van of 60's vintage. Until then it's trailer time for the bikes I have to carry around (summer dirt track, etc) and the Toyota for official shop business. Miss the C10 already.

We have been invited to show a few bikes in The Art of Motorcycles tomorrow, Sunday May 15 at 1PM. Come donate to a great cause- outfitting motorcycles with cots to make moto-ambulances for medical transport in Africa. This is a UNICEF initiative- the goal of the event is to raise enough money to get one of these bikes made ~12K. I've been at the shop frantically working to get bikes ready for this event. Here's one of the things that you'll see on the "street log" tomorrow.

I also got a chance to overhaul the SpookyTooth and get some wiring and assembly progress on the CB project. Good day, many more to come as we thaw out. . .

He's alright, and from what he says on his blog Tokyo is okay. Not much of a believer, but my thoughts are with those in Northern Japan as they continue to struggle with nature and broken technology letting loose.

Sorry for the lack of posting lately. Started a new assignment at work, and that on top of the typical mania....well....

So here are a few pictures from Last Sunday's ride to the Timonium bike show. The Cut Rate/Lowside setup was rad- it was great to see a few friends there and meet a few more. There were a couplea other setups there that were nice too. But mostly, it was coontail. I just can't believe that someone would invest thousands of dollars on something so overly ornate and absurd- and unrideable. Different strokes and all. .

Eight Years

At night, while on my 24 hour shifts, I look at blogs. And read. But mostly the blogs occupy time between runs. I read and take in the pics. . .and dream. In less than eight years I can retire from the fire department. I've had nine injuries in 12 years that required me to stay home and heal. The fire department is a physically greedy place if you do the job right. The fact that I want to retire to a garage not too far from some mellow surf, and live out my dreams- stimulated from the blogs- makes eight years seem so far away.

I wonder how many more beatings I can take until then. I would rather die than not do the job 100% every time we go out the door. I hope I make it. I really just want my few bikes, my dog, a little work space, my 9'4" Mayo, and a bunch of books. . .in eight years.

Saw the Obits at Talking Head Club on a snowy Tuesday night this week with the GF and good friend Geoff Danek, the Triumph madman. The snow kept a lot of people away, so the venue was pretty loose.

We stood five feet from Rick Froberg. The new stuff was really super, and sounds like a rational progression from 'I Blame You.'

Before we got to the club that night, we stopped to recruit Tom T at Rocket- we had an extra ticket. We ended up spending 15 minutes troubleshooting his toaster-tank-con-sidecar BMW-Hella machine. I think our presence fragged Tom a bit, not unlike any mechanic when over-concerned friends loom over and try to help. He got the Beemer running and decided to run back to his shop and give the bike a once-over under a roof and in some heat.

Went to the Mount Royal Tavern with the GF and some friends last night. Before my time in Baltimore, this spot was called the Dirt Church- because of the Sistine Chapel wallpaper on the ceiling- and was basically the spot to go- especially on Monday nights for the jerk chicken. Definitely a bar with some character, and some really heavy apple pie shots poured like a highball- limit 2 per drinker. Head waay too big this morning a measure of what two of these will do to a mortal man.

Happy Holidays from Unholy Motorsports. Below is the Xmas card I sent out. I really haven't 'felt' the holidays this year. The biggest presents I've received thus far were lending a hand while at work to a group of friends throwing a Xmas surprise for some needy families from their church- and going to 2 fires on Xmas day at work, while on my second of two 48-hour shifts over the past week. I know I shouldn't feel good about the fires. Saw the one homeowner break down and claim that the fire ruined our day (our meaning the FD). Gave her a hug and told her 'even though we hate to see someone's house catch on fire, we like to be there when it happens.' It's what we do.

So far as the shop is concerned... Lots coming in the new year. Mother nature has kept it less than desirable to be at the shop as of late, but we have a new logo-sticker-patch that have kept me busy in the basement. Here's a preview of that:

Found this guy through various blogs- the ones that tie the whole 'free to wander' lifestyle in with bikes, art, hot rods, non-filtered music, everything old, fast times, excesses of things that put you in places cloaking the sad reality of our already dead society.

This interview (done by Interview Magazine) of Mr. Lang could be me, 2 years older, less artistically talented, but of the same mind and on the same line. I've never met Wes Lang, maybe we're kindred spirits, or maybe we're both just sick of the bullshit hiding in faux reality.

Either way his work is so spot on in a metaphorical way. Reminds me a lot of Ray Pettitbon.

Gonna sell these little bands of super-velcro material that replace laces both here and at ETSY . I've been sitting on this idea for some time, and while there's still a lot to do, they work good on low-tops or oxfords using only 1 band per shoe; 2 per shoe for hi-tops. I know you've always pondered, 'what does Unholy Motor do on a Saturday in November?' Merlin and I took a through-town trip to the Dirty Burnie and went mad at the Harbor Fright. Stopped at the RoFo for some fried chicken- best in Baltimore, not as good as Bojangles. Upon return to the shop, the '65 got some much needed TLC in the form of an ingenious wiring of the wipers by Merlin, an team effort on the passenger side header gasket, some tail light work, and we finally wired up the Moon tach.

Perfect shop day, followed by Merlin's soon-to-be-famous chicken-fried steak dinner. Christ that was good.

Dicked around with it both ways. Gonna run it hanging, rested between the trees, with a metal Alex Knost-esqe surfer mounted on top of the headlight bracket (gonna fab it up this week). This also gave me the idea of naming the bike 'Street Log', which I will pinstripe onto the tank at some point.

Coffee Grinder Rehab

After a month with a broken coffee grinder, I finally got around to taking it apart to figure out why in the hell it wasn't grinding coffee. Turns out, a 3/32" tab (in the form of a 3/32" dowel through the motor's spline) had sheared.

So, after consulting with the machine God Merlin, I came up with a solution. Bore that bitch out to a 1/8" tab!

About a month ago, while returning from a USAR mission chasing Hurricane Earl, my convoy stopped in a town that just so happened to have the shiny and ridiculous anti-biker headquarters of OCC in it. Under protest, I walked in and promptly walked out, choosing to use this time to update family and friends of our homeward-bound progress.

While catching up on the blogs this morning, I ran across this at Greasy Culture

There is too much of this poser bullshit going down in the bike world. One of the things I love about having old bikes and cars in my life is the fully original people that also surround themselves in this and create such beautiful things. The antithesis of this is the OCC anticulture trainwreck. Someone that has blood on their hands for selling bikes and a pseudo lifestyle out to the mass media took it even further into the culture ditch to rob an image of a true art house bike builder for their shitty t-shirt.

Do your own thing. Or sit in front of the TV and get fatter and stupider, and continue to steal faux identities and be a poseur.

Even though my dream weekend was shattered by the harsh reality of reality, I was able to snap a few shots at the Brooklyn Invitational. I also was able to walk up to Max Shaaf, shake his hand, give him a Unholy Motorsports package, and say thanks for inspiring me to be who I am.

In 2 weeks the girl and I will be traveling to BKLYN to pick up her 72' CB450 and take in The DicE Magazine release party and the Brooklyn Invitational. Looking forward to meeting Matt and Dean fromDicE and Mr. Schaaf from 4Q, new friends and 2 and 4 wheeled machines.

We will be driving the 65' C10 with my 73' CB500 in the back. Lots to do at the shop to both machines between now and then.

I have a version of the fin on the right for my 9'4" Mayo. Unfortunately, it and my board are in Baltimore and I am in New England staging in case Earl makes a mess. I know, I know, what does this have to do with motorcycles and drinkin' !!?? Well, the boys over at Cycle Zombies surf, ride and work on bikes, and are partly to blame for the old van revival. Tire and service prep for Colorado Springs

In support of Bagpiper and Master Firefighter Mike Skidmore's ride to Colorado Springs for the annual IAFF Firefighters Memorial ceremony, Unholy Motorsports slapped on some new rubber and serviced his Honda 750. Thanks to Mike Stork for the timely parts delivery and to Merlin for the continued guidance and support as I learn the craft of wrenching on 2-wheeled machines.

Picking this gem up in Manhattan the day of the DicE Mag release party. She's super excited, and it looks to be a great first bike for her. Send good karma our way, as we are taking the '65 C10 up there to pick it up and to trailer queen the Honda 73' CB500 (hardtailed by Mobtown, fabrication and the rest by Unholy- in progress).

Anyone with an idea on where to stay that's both ratty pickup and old bike friendly in Bklyn please leave a comment.

Stopped in at 4 Corners (Fire Station 16, Montgomery Co MD) on the way home last night to help out good friend and tiller truck driver Kyle Holder. He needed a fix on the left turn signal and tag lights on his Chicky's bike . Now it will pass inspection and get Kyle back in her good graces.

During my most recent bender at Rocket, I ran into friend Chris Landers (a man who gave me a pair of leather pants a long time ago) and bugged him to tell me a story. To which he replied, have another drink and read THIS. I read it this morning; it's a story of his crossing the country on a KTM, tracing the route of C K Shepard, a man who crossed the country on two wheels a few years ago (1919). Anyway, I encourage you to check it out, as it may very well inspire you to do something crazy and rad as well. Below are some pics excerpted from his blog.

The C10 Now Purrs

Finally got around to replacin' the driver's side header gasket and bolts (the original setup was a shot gasket and only 4 of the 6 bolts.....lazy last owner). With a new welded exhaust (courtesy of Maryland Muffler) and this fix, she purrs like a kitten and runs like an alley cat.
